Market Opportunity

In 2016, consumers permanently stored 1.138 trillion new photos. Photographs from traditional cameras do not record the amount of light over a certain levels. Traditionally photos are processed into JPEG, PNG, BMP, TIFF and RAW files. These image types are low-dynamic and often struggle to have a clear contrast ratio. Photographers require their cameras to take photos with different exposure levels. New algorithmic tools have made high-dynamic range images a reality for both professional equipment and mobile telephones. While consumers can now take HDR images on their devices, they cannot view their low-dynamic range images as HDR images.

USC Solution

USC researchers have developed HDR Shop, an interactive graphical user interface image processing and manipulation system. The algorithm is designed for creating, viewing, and processing HDR images. Additionally, this software is capable of transforming almost every low-dynamic digital format into a high-dynamic range image.
